Michael Jordan is one of the most famous professional basketball players in the world, and he has a net worth of approximately $1 billion. His fame and fortune are due to the fact that he had such a spectacular career with the NBA, which led to many endorsements and deals with other companies that have earned him a billion dollars. His career is one of the most successful in the game, and he’s not hurting because of his fame. Born on February 19, 1963, Michael Jordan is one of the greatest all time players to even join the NBA. He was born in New York but moved to the charming Wilmington, North Carolina when he was just a toddler.
He attended school in Wilmington, and he is the fourth of his parent’s five kids. When he was just a high school student, he worked hard to play sports. He was great at all sports and had starting positions on the basketball, football and even the baseball teams. He was successful in all three but, ironically, was not allowed to play for the varsity basketball team during his sophomore year thanks to the fact that the coach thought he was too short. That was probably the defining moment in his life; he decided he would not let his 5’11 frame stop him from playing and he became really, really good. It also helped that during the course of that year he became four inches taller and was finally able to play for the varsity team. He was recruited by almost every great basketball team in college sports because of his exceptional skill. He chose to go to North Carolina – and he succeeded. Named ACC freshman of the year, he continued to wow sports fans and decided to leave college a year early to enter the NBA draft, where he was chosen by the Chicago Bulls as the third all around pick.
Michael Jordan’s career took off. He played for the Bulls from 1984 to 1993 and then returned in 1995 and stayed until 1998 and then played pro ball again from 2001 to 2003 before retiring. He made millions during his time with the Bulls and from companies such as Nike for his endorsements. He is now the owner of the Charlotte Hornets, and he has a number of accomplishments and titles to his name. He’s a 14-time NBA All-Star game player, he’s won 6 NBA Finals MVP titles, 10 scoring titles and she’s the NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 1988. He’s also been the recipient of five MVP awards and averages 33.45 points per game in the playoffs. He was named the greatest athlete in North America in 1999, and he’s been inducted twice into the NBA Hall of Fame.
Thanks to his partnership with Nike, his role in the NBA, his team ownership and his roles in movies such as “Space Jam,” he’s the first ever billionaire athlete in the history of sports – and he’s probably the most famous basketball player in the world.
