Mike Tyson is a retired boxer with a net worth of $1 million. It seems paltry for a man who won some of the biggest titles in the world, but he has managed to squander almost everything he earned when he was at the peak of his career. Born in 1966, Tyson is one of the most successful and most controversial boxers in the history of the sport. He’s best known as the man who bit the ear off a fellow opponent in the middle of a match, and he’s known for his violent side. Accused of raping an 18-year-old girl in 1991, he spent approximately 3 years in prison for his crimes. He’s been married three times, and his first two wives have accused him of some horrible things.
Mike Tyson has been described by his first two wives as being a serial cheater, as being bipolar and as being abusive. He was raised in a very difficult lifestyle as a child. His father left when he was small, his mother died when he was a teen and left him in the care of his boxing manager, and he’s been known to say that she never once saw him do anything worthwhile and only saw him living a life of crime. He’s been an addicted, a drunk and he’s been in a lot of trouble throughout his career, and he blames the vast majority of that on his childhood and his upbringing on the street in high-crime neighborhoods.
Tyson has 8 children, and he also includes his wife’s oldest daughter as his own, so he does tell the world that he has nine kids – though one is no longer living. One of his little girls died at the age of four after she became entangled around the cord of an exercise machine in the home. Her older brother found her and tried to save her, along with the child’s mother, but it was too late. She died of her injuries and it was a hard-hitting moment for the entire family.
Throughout the course of his boxing career, Mike Tyson earned more than $300 million. He won fights, broke records and still holds many of those records decades later. He used all of his money on things like child support, drugs, alcohol and other wasteful items leaving him with only $1 million. Much of his income now requires him to live paycheck to paycheck – according to an interview he did a few years ago – and he has a show on the Animal Planet channel that pays him regularly. His nearly $300 million fortune might be gone, he might have been forced to file for bankruptcy in the past and he might not have anything to show for his life at this point, but he claims to be happier than ever with his wife and his kids, and he’s living much of his life out of the spotlight at the moment, which is probably for the best considering his many unfortunate decisions in the past.
